Alberta tenancy rules, across the life of a tenancy
One set of provincial guides, tools and checklists that every Alberta city reuses. Pick a city to see which local layers sit on top. The Alberta trap is visible everywhere: there is no rent cap, so the rules that bite are about timing, notice and the trust account, and a fixed term ends on its date with no notice from anyone.
Red Deer:No local layer in the pilot.

The Act regulates when and how, not how much
Alberta sets no limit on a rent increase. What it sets is a 365-day gap, three full tenancy months' notice for a month-to-month tenancy, no increase inside a fixed term, a one-month deposit in an interest-bearing trust account, mandatory inspection reports, and a short list of reasons for ending a periodic tenancy. Cities cannot add rent control; they regulate the building.
