Before ending a tenancy
Ending a tenancy in BC is reason-specific: the reason decides the form, the notice period, the compensation and who can dispute what. This navigator identifies the route and what you'd need to establish first. It does not generate a notice and it does not tell you to serve one.
Before you decide
- A tenancy that is working badly is not always one that should end. Payment plans, a written warning, or a mutual agreement often cost less than a notice that gets disputed.
- A notice served on the wrong ground, or with the wrong period, is usually void; the tenant can stay and the clock restarts.
- Some routes need an RTB order or the RTB portal before anything else. This page shows which.
